Summary | 0000400: Snapping indicator
Description | I support the closed issue 0000132. It would be fine to have an snapping indicator. What I imagine (cf. attachment too): - zoomed view around the snapped point, free of mouse cursor, guides, grid, etc... The zoomed view would open in the 3D view in the opposite quadrant of where the mouse is - Text indicating the snapped object and snap type (Middle of Line, End of Line, Circle Center) The view would disappear after a few seconds after the last snapped status or immediately if the mouse is over the view. The view would stay in place until end of snapping even if the mouse changes quadrant. This is to avoid flicker.
Additional Information | On the quick and dirty mock-up, the situation is actually worse because my screenshot tool deleted the mouse cursor which was hiding the black point of snapping (which turned out to be a circle on the screenshot, not a disk). Issue 0000132 was marked done but I cannot see this in FreeCAD CSV 4263 (from launchpad). I can see what is preselected in the status bar but it's not clear if it is what is used as snapped object.

Hi, I'm not sure why you cannot see the snap points, you pressed CTRL, right? (Or enabled "always snap" in Draft preferences) Otherwise you will only see the "passive" snap... About your whole idea, it is nice but I'm afraid it would be a huge work (a bit beyond my coding capacities actually) to add a "subwindow" like that to the 3D view system, and with very little use, I'm pretty sure many other users would find that bad and ask for removing it. So, sorry, but I won't do it because it would take me months, which would probably better be used on other things... But let's keep this request open a little bit more, maybe someone else would have other ideas on the subject, but to be honest I wouldn't count too much on it. Cheers Yorik |

Hi, I couldn't see the snap point because the mouse cursor was hiding it. Instead of the subwindow, would it be feasible to indicate the snapping situation in the status bar, for example "snap: end of 'Box.Edge123' with centre of 'Circle'"? Cheers, Gaƫl |

Hm actually that happens already, if yo ulook at the staus bar, you'll see what object and what component you are snapping at. Your problem is that you cannot see clearly the snapping symbol, if I understand well? That might happen indeed, depending on things like your screen resolution or your mouse cursor theme maybe... But I could easily setup an option that would allow you to change the size of those symbols, what about that? I think if you can clearly see the symbol, you won't need any other information |

I delegate that one to you. Close it if you wish... |

didn't heard anymre of it, so let's close it for now... Feel free to reopen if it's still a problem! |
